Filebrowser < 2.33.10 - Command Injection
File Browser provides a file managing interface within a specified directory and it can be used to upload, delete, preview, rename and edit files. In versions on the 2.x branch prior to 2.33.10, the Command Execution feature of File Browser only allows the execution of shell command which have been predefined on a user-specific allowlist. Many tools allow the execution of arbitrary different commands, rendering this limitation void. The concrete impact depends on the commands being granted to the attacker, but the large number of standard commands allowing the execution of subcommands makes it likely that every user having the `Execute commands` permissions can exploit this vulnerability. Everyone who can exploit it will have full code execution rights with the uid of the server process. Version 2.33.10 contains a check for whether a command is allowed when using shell.

File Browser <2.62.0 Copy/Rename Destination - Access Rule Bypass
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Versions 2.61.2 and below are vulnerable to Path Traversal through the resourcePatchHandler (http/resource.go). The destination path in resourcePatchHandler is validated against access rules before being cleaned/normalized, while the actual file operation calls path.Clean() afterward—resolving .. sequences into a different effective path. This allows an authenticated user with Create or Rename permissions to bypass administrator-configured deny rules (both prefix-based and regex-based) by injecting .. sequences in the destination parameter of a PATCH request. As a result, the user can write or move files into any deny-rule-protected path within their scope. However, this cannot be used to escape the user's BasePathFs scope or read from restricted paths. This issue has been fixed in version 2.62.0.

File Browser Self Registration Grants Any User Admin Access When Default Permissions Include Admin
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. In versions 2.61.2 and below, any unauthenticated visitor can register a full administrator account when self-registration (signup = true) is enabled and the default user permissions have perm.admin = true. The signup handler blindly applies all default settings (including Perm.Admin) to the new user without any server-side guard that strips admin from self-registered accounts. The signupHandler is supposed to create unprivileged accounts for new visitors. It contains no explicit user.Perm.Admin = false reset after applying defaults. If an administrator (intentionally or accidentally) configures defaults.perm.admin = true and also enables signup, every account created via the public registration endpoint is an administrator with full control over all files, users, and server settings. This issue has been resolved in version 2.62.0.

File Browser <2.62.0 Public Shares - Download Authorization Bypass
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Versions 2.61.0 and below contain a permission enforcement bypass which allows users who are denied download privileges (perm.download = false) but granted share privileges (perm.share = true) to exfiltrate file content by creating public share links. While the direct raw download endpoint (/api/raw/) correctly enforces the download permission, the share creation endpoint only checks Perm.Share, and the public download handler (/api/public/dl/<hash>) serves file content without verifying that the original file owner has download permission. This means any authenticated user with share access can circumvent download restrictions by sharing a file and then retrieving it via the unauthenticated public download URL. The vulnerability undermines data-loss prevention and role-separation policies, as restricted users can publicly distribute files they are explicitly blocked from downloading directly. This issue has been fixed in version 2.62.0.

Prior to version 2.61.0, when a user creates a public share link for a directory, the withHashFile middleware in http/public.go uses filepath.Dir(link.Path) to compute the BasePathFs root. This sets the filesystem root to the parent directory instead of the shared directory itself, allowing anyone with the share link to browse and download files from all sibling directories. This issue has been patched in version 2.61.0.

Any multi-user deployment where administrators explicitly restrict file deletion for certain users is affected. This issue has been patched in version 2.61.1.

The file access permissions for files uploaded to or created from File Browser are never explicitly set by the application. The same is true for the database used by File Browser. On standard servers using File Browser prior to version 2.33.7 where the umask configuration has not been hardened before, this makes all the stated files readable by any operating system account. Version 2.33.7 fixes the issue.

This will give an attacker full access to a user's account and, in consequence, to all sensitive files the user has access to. This issue has been patched in version 2.33.9.

Due to the missing separation of scopes on the OS-level, this could give an attacker access to all files managed the application, including the File Browser database. This issue has been patched in version 2.33.10.

Versions prior to 2.45.1 have an Insecure Direct Object Reference (IDOR) vulnerability in the FileBrowser application's share deletion functionality. This vulnerability allows any authenticated user with share permissions to delete other users' shared links without authorization checks. The impact is significant as malicious actors can disrupt business operations by systematically removing shared files and links. This leads to denial of service for legitimate users, potential data loss in collaborative environments, and breach of data confidentiality agreements. In organizational settings, this could affect critical file sharing for projects, presentations, or document collaboration. Version 2.45.1 contains a fix for the issue.

Prior to 2.57.1, a case-sensitivity flaw in the password validation logic allows any authenticated user to change their password (or an admin to change any user's password) without providing the current password. By using Title Case field name "Password" instead of lowercase "password" in the API request, the current_password verification is completely bypassed. This enables account takeover if an attacker obtains a valid JWT token through XSS, session hijacking, or other means. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.57.1.

By adding multiple slashes (e.g., //private/) to the path, the authorization check fails to match the rule, while the underlying filesystem resolves the path correctly, granting unauthorized access to restricted files. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.57.1.
